Anna Chaplaincy at CoGS
providing spiritual support to older people in our community
Anna Chaplaincy is our way of offering gentle, spiritual care to older people, their families, and those who support them. Inspired by Anna, the faithful older woman in Luke’s Gospel who recognised Jesus and shared hope with others, this ministry is rooted in presence, compassion, and dignity.
At the Church of the Good Shepherd, our Anna Chaplain is David Warren.
David is commissioned to come alongside older adults in our community — whether they are living independently, in sheltered housing, or in residential care. His ministry includes:
- Listening and companionship for those who may feel isolated or overlooked
- Prayer and spiritual support for people of all faith backgrounds or none
- Strengthening links with local care homes, including Elsie Fudge House, Wakefield Court, and Belmont Castle
- Supporting families and carers who carry so much of the day‑to‑day responsibility
- Helping our church grow in confidence as we love and value older people in Jesus’ name
Anna Chaplaincy is not about “doing for” but being with — offering time, kindness, and a reminder that every person’s story matters.
If you’d like to know more about Anna Chaplaincy, or if you know someone who would appreciate a visit, please contact the church office. We would love to support you.
Regular Events for Older People
Mid-week Communion
Join us on the first Wednesday of every month at 1pm for a peaceful, thirty‑minute said communion service. It’s a calm mid‑week moment to reconnect with God and with one another.
Belmont Castle Service
Belmont Castle is the only Care Home in our parish. We love going to visit on Second Sundays at 2:30pm where we share a short service together with plenty of singing and then chat to the residents. It’s such a blessing.
We love visiting Belmont Castle, our parish’s only care home. Every second Sunday at 2:30pm we offer a short, uplifting service with lots of singing, then stay to talk with the residents. These afternoons are a real gift to us.
Holy Communion at Wakefield Court
Wakefield Court, along with Elsie Fudge House, is one of our parish’s purpose‑built retirement complexes situated directly behind the church. We hold a monthly communion service there on the second Wednesday at 10am, offering a brief and accessible time of worship for residents.
Everyone is welcome. If you’d like to join us for this short, friendly service, you’re more than free to come along.
Vintage Wine
No actual wine — just plenty of lively conversation, fun activities, and regular guest speakers for those who are a little more “vintage” in years. We meet on the first Wednesday of the month at 1:45pm, straight after the communion service.
